One Tyro settlement covers several funders
One Tyro Health credit is a day of approved claims across several funders, paid as a single settlement amount into the nominated account. The remittance page splits that credit per funder. Medicare, DVA, ECLIPSE, WorkCover QLD and HealthPoint sit outside the gateway settlement, so they arrive as their own bank lines. Post the credit through a Tyro Health clearing account.
Key facts
- What the bank line is
- One credit covering a day of approved transactions across the funders the gateway settles, while the practice system already recorded a payment against each invoice inside it6
- Who is inside the credit
- Tyro Health Online payments, nib Direct, Comcare, icare, QBE and WorkSafe Victoria6
- Who is not
- The help centre states the gateway does not manage settlement for any other insurers, including Medicare, DVA, ECLIPSE, WorkCover QLD or HealthPoint6
- Where the split lives
- The remittance page's Daily tab, which opens a settlement to the invoices behind it with the bank lodgement reference and account details7
- The monthly file
- A CSV summary per funder holding every settlement run for that funder and the amount settled each day7
- Where the credit posts
- Account 105, Tyro Health clearing, a bank type account at the BAS Excluded tax type8
- How the claiming fee is timed
- The allied health canonical template records this rail as billed separately each month, so no fee leg sits inside the settlement, and the same template asks a practice to confirm that against a pilot bank feed8
- Accounts in the allied health template
- Two rails, two accounts: Tyro Health at 105, Tyro Health clearing and EFTPOS (non-Tyro terminal) at 106, EFTPOS clearing8
- Accounts in the psychology template
- One rail named Tyro Health and EFTPOS carries both, posting to 101, Tyro Health and EFTPOS clearing9
- Why HealthPoint is outside
- A HealthPoint claim settles on the terminal facility, which Tyro describes as settling on behalf of participating health funds into one statement, so it is not inside the online gateway's settlement1
- Why WorkCover Queensland is outside
- The insurer keeps its own provider portal, where a provider views, searches and downloads its remittances, so the money and the paperwork both sit outside the gateway2
- Which leg carries the tax treatment
- The revenue leg. A listed health service performed by a recognised health professional, and generally accepted in that profession as necessary for the appropriate treatment of the recipient, is GST free10
What one Tyro credit actually is
The bank feed shows one credit with the gateway's name on it. Behind that credit sits a day of claims that several different funders approved. Tyro Health states that all approved transactions for a day are paid as a single settlement amount into the nominated bank details, and by then the practice system has already recorded a payment against each of those invoices. So the ledger holds a list and the bank holds a total.
Reconcile Tyro payment when system created invoice automatically is marked paid12
That question title is the symptom in a practitioner's own words. The invoice closed the moment the claim was approved, so by the time the credit arrives there is nothing open for it to pay. The thread itself now redirects to Xero's ideas board, so only its title survives in search.
Which funders are inside the credit, and which are not
The gateway lodges for more funders than it settles for, and that one line is what the whole reconciliation hangs on. A funder the gateway lodges for but does not settle for sends its money another way, on its own clock, as its own bank line. Reading a shortfall into the gateway credit when one of those payers is simply late is the expensive version of this mistake.
| Funder | Who sends the money | Account the settlement posts to |
|---|---|---|
| Tyro Health Online payments | The gateway, inside the day's settlement | 105, Tyro Health clearing |
| nib Direct | The gateway, inside the day's settlement | 105, Tyro Health clearing |
| Comcare, icare, QBE and WorkSafe Victoria | The gateway, inside the day's settlement | 105, Tyro Health clearing |
| Medicare bulk bill | Services Australia, one transfer per payment run | 100, Medicare clearing |
| DVA | Services Australia, in runs of its own | 101, DVA clearing |
| WorkCover Queensland | The insurer itself, with remittances in its provider portal | 108, WorkCover clearing |
| HealthPoint claims | The terminal facility, on behalf of the funds | The terminal rail the practice runs, not 105, Tyro Health clearing |
| ECLIPSE claims | Outside the gateway settlement, payer not stated | Not 105, Tyro Health clearing |
The help centre puts the second half of that table plainly: the gateway does not manage settlement for any other insurers, including Medicare, DVA, ECLIPSE, WorkCover QLD or HealthPoint. A practice claiming a full spread through one screen should expect the gateway credit plus several other credits, from different payers, on different days.
How many clearing accounts that split needs
The split decides the account count, not the number of funders the practice bills. Funders that arrive inside one credit can share one account, because they clear together. A funder that arrives on its own bank line is better off in its own account, because an aged balance there points at that funder instead of disappearing into a total.
The canonical templates disagree about where to draw that line, and the disagreement is worth seeing. The allied health template runs two rails, Tyro Health into 105, Tyro Health clearing and EFTPOS (non-Tyro terminal) into 106, EFTPOS clearing, so a card settlement and a claiming settlement do not land in the same pile. The psychology template folds both into one rail, Tyro Health and EFTPOS, posting to 101, Tyro Health and EFTPOS clearing, on the reading that a smaller practice running one facility sees one credit anyway.
- One account for the funders the gateway settles, because they arrive inside one credit and clear together.
- One account for each funder that arrives on its own bank line, because each has its own payment run and its own reasons for running late.
- An account for the card terminal, which the allied health template keeps apart from the gateway and the psychology template folds in with it.
- The gateway's claiming fee on an expense line of its own, because the canonical template records it as billed to the practice each month rather than taken out of a settlement.
Splitting finer than that costs more in bookkeeping than it returns in clarity. Splitting coarser hides which funder is late, which is the question a practice owner asks first.
One credit for the day, or one per funder
The published wording does not settle this. The settlements article describes all approved transactions for a day paid as a single settlement amount. The remittance page describes settlement payments for each individual funder. Both are the vendor's own words, and a practice can read either shape into them.
The pattern below holds under both shapes, which is the point of putting an account between the invoices and the bank line. A practice does not have to resolve the vendor's wording before it can reconcile. It has to know which shape its own feed shows.
The remittance page is where the split lives
The Daily tab shows settlement payments for each individual funder, and selecting one shows the invoices behind that remittance advice with the bank lodgement reference and account details, downloadable as a PDF or a CSV. The Monthly tab hands back a CSV summary per funder holding every settlement run for it and the amount settled each day.
The bank lodgement reference is the key worth keeping. A settlement that cannot be tied to invoices by amount can still be tied by reference, and the reference holds up when two settlements land on the same day. The column names inside the CSV are not published in the help article, so treat the file the practice downloads as its own specification.
Working one credit, in order
None of this needs a Xero feature the practice does not already have. It needs the credit to meet a balance that was built from the same remittance, so the match is one line against one line.
- Receipt each claim to the Tyro Health clearing account on the date the funder approved it, which is the date the settlement is built from.
- Download the Daily tab for that settlement and read the funder totals inside it, so the parts of the credit have names before anything is matched.
- Match the bank credit as a transfer out of the clearing account, with the bank lodgement reference carried across as the reference.
- Read the balance left behind as claims the funders approved and the bank has not delivered yet, and expect it to return to nil as each settlement lands.
- Send anything older than a few days back to the funder that owns it rather than to a rounding entry, because at that age it is a declined claim or a settlement matched somewhere else.
Setting up a clearing account covers the Xero side once, Find and Match covers what the screen can and cannot close, and one deposit covering many invoices covers the same shape across every other rail.
When the credit looks short
A gateway credit smaller than the day's approved claims usually has one of four explanations, and none of them is a write off.
- A claim was approved after its funder's cut-off, so it belongs to the next settlement rather than to this one.
- A settlement is paid the business day after the transaction, so a weekend or a public holiday can put two settlements into the same day's feed.
- A claim was declined, so it did not settle and its invoice is still open rather than short paid.
- The funder is one the gateway lodges for but does not settle, so its money is arriving separately and is not missing from anything.
The last one is the costly reading, because it looks like a shortfall and is really a different bank line on a different day. The cut-offs are 8pm AET for online card payments and 5pm AET for the insurers the gateway settles, and the payment then travels on a BECS file, which the help centre describes as adding a one or two business day delay in processing, with some institutions slower again.
Two legs, and which one the BAS sees
A settlement moves money that has already been earned, so it carries no tax consequence of its own. In the allied health canonical template the settlement leg posts to the Tyro Health clearing account at the BAS Excluded tax type. The treatment that reaches the BAS sits on the revenue leg, on the account the invoice was raised against.
The revenue leg follows the service. The ATO makes a health service that is not a medical service GST free on three conditions together: it is one of the listed health services, a recognised health professional in that service performs it, and it is generally accepted in that profession as necessary for the appropriate treatment of the recipient of the supply. Insurer funded treatment reaches the same answer through the third party rules, where an insurer or a statutory compensation scheme operator is the recipient, and those two parties can agree not to treat the supplies that way.
Which Tyro is on the bank line
Three products share the name and produce different credits: the claiming gateway, the EFTPOS terminal with HealthPoint claiming on it, and Tyro's banking and bill payment product, which moves money out rather than in. Naming which one sent the credit is the first step in any Tyro reconciliation, because they belong in different accounts. The Tyro Health funder page carries the gateway's mechanics and the Tyro EFTPOS and HealthPoint page carries the terminal.
What Ledger Map does with a gateway credit
The practice approves one standing map before anything syncs. Each claim line resolves to its account and its tax rate through that map, and each settlement is posted as one balanced document set against the Tyro Health clearing account, so the bank feed is left with one exact match for a person to accept.
Where a line cannot be resolved it becomes a question with the options laid out, rather than a quiet posting to a default account. A credit that does not meet the balance built from the remittance is that kind of question. How it works walks through the map and the approval in front of it.
Questions
Why does one Tyro settlement cover several funders?
Because the gateway pays a day of approved transactions as a single settlement amount into the nominated bank details, while the remittance page reports that settlement for each individual funder. The funders sit one level down, inside the remittance advice, so the bank feed sees a total and the ledger holds the list of invoices behind it.
Does Tyro Health pay Medicare, DVA and WorkCover Queensland claims?
No. The gateway lodges those claims, and its help centre states it does not manage settlement for any other insurers, including Medicare, DVA, ECLIPSE, WorkCover QLD or HealthPoint. Services Australia transfers Medicare and DVA money in payment runs of its own, and WorkCover Queensland keeps its invoices and remittances in its own provider portal, so each of those arrives as a separate bank line.
How many clearing accounts do I need for Tyro?
One for the funders the gateway settles, because they arrive inside one credit, plus one for each funder that arrives on its own bank line. The allied health canonical template runs two rails, Tyro Health into 105, Tyro Health clearing and EFTPOS (non-Tyro terminal) into 106, EFTPOS clearing, while the psychology template posts both through 101, Tyro Health and EFTPOS clearing, so the count follows the rails a practice actually runs.
Where do I find the funder split for a Tyro settlement?
On the gateway's remittance page. The Daily tab shows settlement payments for each individual funder, and selecting one lists the invoices behind that remittance advice with the bank lodgement reference and account details, as a PDF or a CSV. The Monthly tab gives a CSV summary per funder with the amount settled each day.
Are Tyro Health settlements gross or net of fees?
The allied health canonical template records the claiming rail as billed separately each month, so it posts the settlement gross with no fee leg inside it. The same template attaches a note to that rail asking a practice to confirm from a pilot bank feed whether Tyro EFTPOS card settlements arrive gross or net before the rail is read as gross in every case.

Open questions
- Whether a practice sees one credit for a whole day or one credit per funder is not settled by the published wording. The settlements article describes a single settlement amount for the day, the remittance page lists settlement payments for each individual funder, and the research behind the canonical templates records the rail as one settlement per funder per day. This page gives a check a reader can run on their own remittance instead of asserting either shape.
- Whether Tyro EFTPOS card settlements arrive gross or net of fees is unverified. The allied health template attaches that note to the Tyro Health rail itself, asking a practice to confirm it from a pilot bank feed before the rail is read as gross in every case, so the fee timing on this page is the template's record rather than an observed settlement.
- HealthPoint sits outside the online gateway's settlement and settles on the terminal facility instead, on behalf of the participating funds. Which account a Tyro HealthPoint benefit belongs in is not settled by the allied health template, whose terminal rail is named for a non-Tyro terminal, so the table names the rail the practice already runs rather than a code.
- The settlements article names ECLIPSE among the insurers the gateway does not settle, and says nothing about who pays an ECLIPSE claim instead. The table records that gap rather than filling it.
- The remittance CSV column names are not published in the help article, so the downloaded file is its own specification rather than a documented layout.
- The Xero Central thread quoted here now redirects to the ideas board, so only its question title is citable and the source is marked unverified. The body of the thread could not be read.
- No google.com.au results page, People also ask list or AI Overview could be observed for this query on 3 Sep 2026, because the session's search budget was exhausted and the SERP cache holds no snapshot for this page. The FAQ pairs are drawn from the manifest's secondary queries and the pain point register instead, and the answer landscape in the brief is assembled from the corpus rather than from a fresh observation.
- No bank narration is published for a gateway settlement, so this page names no descriptor string and the matcher learns it from the practice's own feed.
